Stainless Steel grades engineered for improved machinability, extended tool life, and consistent component quality
As an Authorised Sales Partner for Marcegaglia Sheffield, our entire 316L, 304L, and 303 stainless steel range - in round bar and all cold drawn forms - is supplied as PRODEC® enhanced steel as standard. It's not an upgrade you need to request. Just better machinability built in from the mill, with no compromise on corrosion resistance.
ENGINEERED FOR HIGH-DEMAND MACHINING APPLICATIONS

PRODEC® is designed for production environments where material consistency matters - where tool life, surface finish, and cycle time directly affect output and cost. It performs across a wide range of part types and geometries, from small precision components to larger engineered parts.
Typical applications include:
• Fasteners
• Flanges and valves
• Pressure fittings
• Gears
• Shafts
• Machined components for process equipment
PRODEC is manufactured in Sheffield, UK. As a dedicated UK stockholder, we hold stock ready for immediate despatch. For UK manufacturers, that means consistent availability and no exposure to the import tariff and quota restrictions on stainless bar that tightened significantly from July 2026.

V15 tests demonstrate significant improvements in cutting speed and tool life compared to market competitors, translating directly into higher productivity and lower machining costs.
In 2025, PRODEC® was tested against six competing European stainless steel bar products using a CNMG cemented carbide insert under V15 methodology - a recognised industry benchmark. Results showed cutting speeds up to 20% higher on 316L and 13% higher on 304L versus the European average, with tool life extended by up to 159% compared to the lowest-performing supplier tested.
What is PRODEC?
PRODEC® is an enhanced-machinability stainless steel bar produced by Marcegaglia Sheffield. It is engineered specifically to perform better in CNC machining environments than standard stainless bar - without any compromise to corrosion resistance or mechanical properties.
Marcegaglia Sheffield produces PRODEC® using a proprietary manufacturing process that modifies the material's internal structure to improve chip formation and reduce the demands placed on cutting tools.
The result is bar that machines more predictably, runs cooler, and extends insert life compared to standard-grade equivalents.

RAISING THE BAR OF YOUR MACHINING
PRODEC® meets the same material standards as conventional stainless bar, carries the same certifications, and is suitable for the same applications. The difference is entirely in how it machines - which matters when carbide insert costs, cycle times, and surface finish tolerances are under pressure.
UK Steel Import Quotas
Why UK Stockholding Matters Now
From July 2026, changes to UK steel import quotas will affect the availability and landed cost of stainless bar sourced from European mills. For buyers managing forward programmes, and engineers who need reliable material on short lead times, the practical impact is the same - supply becomes less predictable and costs harder to control at quota trigger points.
Offshore Stainless & Alloys holds PRODEC® stock in the UK. That stock is not subject to import quotas, tariff rate changes, or mill lead times. When quota periods tighten, our customers are not exposed.
If your current stainless bar supply runs through European mill channels, now is a straightforward time to review your arrangements.
